Donald Trump Reacts to the Election of Pope Leo XIV

Following the historic election of **Pope Leo XIV**, the first North American pope, former U.S. President **Donald Trump** shared his thoughts on the momentous occasion.

Trump, known for his strong presence on social media, took to **Truth Social** to congratulate **Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost**, who was chosen as the new leader of the Catholic Church.

In his statement, Trump expressed pride in the fact that Pope Leo XIV is the **first American pope**, calling it a **"great honor"** for the United States.

He acknowledged the significance of the moment and stated that he looked forward to meeting the new pontiff, describing the prospect as **"very meaningful."**

Trump also made a lighthearted remark about the traditional white smoke that signals the election of a new pope, saying, **"I saw the smoke, but I haven't seen the pope."**

His comment quickly gained attention, reflecting his characteristic approach to public statements—mixing formality with humor.

The election of Pope Leo XIV marks a shift in Vatican leadership, and Trump’s reaction underscores the importance of this milestone for American Catholics and the broader global community.

As the new pope begins his tenure, many will be watching closely to see how his leadership unfolds and how world leaders, including Trump, continue to engage with him.
