A disturbing health alert has emerged from Louisiana, where two individuals have died after consuming raw oysters contaminated with Vibrio vulnificus, a dangerous flesh-eating bacteria that thrives in warm coastal waters. The deaths have prompted state health officials to issue urgent warnings about the risks of eating raw shellfish, especially during the late summer months when water temperatures are highest.

Vibrio vulnificus is a naturally occurring bacterium found in brackish waters along the Gulf Coast. While most cases result in mild gastrointestinal symptoms, severe infections can lead to necrotizing fasciitis—a fast-spreading condition that destroys skin and muscle tissue.
