U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred global attention with a bold claim: a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza could be reached “within the next week.”
The statement, made during a press briefing and echoed on his social media platform, comes as the 20-month-long war continues to devastate the region, with over 56,500 Palestinians killed and humanitarian conditions worsening daily.
Trump’s optimism follows a flurry of diplomatic activity. Israeli Cabinet Minister Ron Dermer is set to visit Washington for ceasefire talks, and plans are reportedly underway for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to follow.
Trump has repeatedly urged both sides to “MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!” emphasizing the urgency of resolving the conflict.
However, the path to peace remains fraught. Hamas insists on a full Israeli withdrawal and an end to the war in exchange for releasing hostages.
Israel, in contrast, demands Hamas surrender, disarm, and go into exile—a nonstarter for the militant group. Meanwhile, the Israeli military has ordered mass evacuations in northern Gaza, signaling continued operations despite ceasefire chatter.
Trump’s remarks have also drawn criticism for interfering in Israeli domestic affairs. He publicly condemned Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial, calling it a “POLITICAL WITCH HUNT” and claiming it hampers ceasefire negotiations.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens—with food blockades, destroyed infrastructure, and overwhelmed hospitals—Trump’s prediction offers a glimmer of hope.
But with no formal negotiations confirmed and both sides entrenched, the world watches warily to see if this promise of peace will materialize.
