Crypto Demographics 2025: Young Men Lead, Mobile Access Dominates

LONDON — The global cryptocurrency landscape has evolved dramatically in 2025, with over 580 million active users worldwide—a 34% increase from the previous year. This surge reflects not only growing interest in digital assets but also a shift in who is driving adoption and how they’re accessing crypto services.

The dominant age group in crypto remains 25 to 34, accounting for 31% of users globally. This segment is followed by the 35 to 44 bracket, which comprises 23% and tends to hold larger wallet balances and adopt long-term investment strategies. Despite their digital fluency, Gen Z users represent a smaller share, while Baby Boomers continue to show minimal engagement.

Gender disparities persist, with men making up 61% of all crypto owners. However, female participation is gradually increasing, especially in regions where mobile-first platforms and stablecoins offer financial inclusion.

Geographically, Asia leads with 43% of global users, driven by strong adoption in India, Vietnam, and the Philippines. North America follows with 17%, with the United States alone accounting for 10% of the global share. Europe holds 15%, while Africa has emerged as a fast-growing hub, now representing 10% of users—particularly in Nigeria and Kenya. Latin America and the Middle East round out the global distribution, with 9% and 4% respectively.

Mobile access is now the norm, with 78% of users relying on smartphones to manage their crypto portfolios. The average global wallet balance has risen to $3,560, reflecting increased confidence and broader use cases, including remittances, savings, and decentralized finance.

As crypto continues to mature, these demographic shifts offer insight into its future trajectory. The data suggests that younger, mobile-savvy users will remain the backbone of adoption, while regional dynamics and gender inclusion will shape the next wave of growth.
